The EYFS+ curriculum is tailored for pupils with vision and multi-sensory impairments, offering an adapted and enhanced version of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum. It is designed for children from rising 2s up to the start of Key Stage 1.

The EYFS+ is delivered within its own designated area, equipped with classrooms, a sensory room, a soft play area, and an outdoor environment. These enabling environments support pupils’ access, independence, and holistic development across all areas of the EYFS+ curriculum. Pupils in the EYFS+ benefit from access to teachers specialising in vision impairment, multi-sensory impairment, and hearing impairment. These experts work collaboratively to meet pupils’ sensory needs and facilitate their learning. Additionally, we work closely with an interdisciplinary team including therapy, habilitation, and creative and therapeutic arts professionals to deliver a child-centred, holistic approach to education.

Ensuring that pupils feel safe, secure, and settled is paramount. We build strong, collaborative partnerships with families to gain a comprehensive understanding of each child’s unique needs, enabling us to deliver an effective and individualised educational offer. By placing pupils and their families at the heart of our provision, we nurture key skills such as communication, resilience, independence, confidence, and self-assurance.

We recognise that learning and development occur at different rates and look different for every child. Learning in the EYFS+ is play-based and rooted in first hand, real-life experiences within a variety of enabling environments. Pupils’ interests and needs guide our holistic educational offer, providing a secure foundation for future learning. The EYFS+ curriculum is structured around the seven areas of learning, ensuring a broad and balanced educational experience that allows each pupil to thrive and make progress in their own way. These areas are divided into Prime and Specific areas:

Prime Areas

  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development
  • Personal, Social, and Emotional Development

Specific Areas

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design
